Tudor & Stuart Ireland conference

On 29 and 30 August 2014, NUI Maynooth will host the annual Tudor and Stuart Ireland conference which is now in its fourth year. The programme offers a wide range of aspects between the end of the fifteenth and the early eighteenth century. There are thirty speakers and two plenary lectures (as well as a tour of Maynooth Castle, the principal residence of the earls of Kildare).

For those paricularly interested in the history of the Church of Ireland in the early modern period, one of the keynote lectures will be presented by Professor Alan Ford (University of Nottingham). His paper is entitled: ‘”Love God and hate the Pope”: (un)changing  Protestant attitudes towards Catholicism, 1600-2000’. Other papers of note include ‘Protestant-Catholic relations in seventeenth-century Ireland: a case study of St Audoen’s parish, Dublin’ (Professor Colm Lennon); ‘Catholic or Protestant? Funerary monuments in Tudor and Stuart Ireland’ (Dr Amy Harris); and ‘”Ecclesia ruinosa“: The parish churches and the Reformation in County Kildare, 1615-40′ (Mr Jeffrey Cox).
